RE: Ultra-Fab Strongarm Stabilizers vs. JT Strongarm

I been thinking about that too. I have a lil mig, but I can't find clear enough pictures to understand the attachments and ends...

RE: Slider Hitch??

Love my Superglide. Just a little tip though for your future.
1) Throw a couple coats of clear on it now while it's new and clean. Mine seems to have faded, and it's also rusty in a couple spots. This is going to be a fall project for me - clean it up.
2) Then on the clean up note, there's a special lube for the glides they're recommending now. Use that and not grease. I bought mine before they started recomending the lube. Mines a mess now. I'll going to clean it when repainting this year.

RE: Painting Exterior

Had a family friend paint an older motor home as part of a rebuild that worked out well from what I've heard. As I've learned with all my painting projects (jeeps, jetskis, mowers) it's all in the prep...
I'd say get out there and help him sand and scuff and knock yourselves out. Be prepared though...real paint isn't cheap anymore. I just paid $130 for PPG for a jetski.

Are these better then a pin stabilizer?

RE: Truck Tire Pressure

I guess I'm missing it. Sorry.
My tires, and several around the shop here also, specify a max load at a max psi or in some cases (and by nature of the statement) vice versa.
Maybe it's just a continuation of another long day but that clearly implies that you have to load the tire before checking your pressure and the pressure is in fact altered by load.
But hey...I'm flexible....How do you read it?

RE: Truck Tire Pressure

Why's that? You can't read a tires side wall or the manufactures load and inflation charts?

RE: Truck Tire Pressure

Shesh. Everyone is an Engineer these days.
Well I'm an Engineer...Google up "ideal gas law" and you can make yourself believe that the pressure doesn't change. However, it's not that simple since there's outside factors in it all.
Theoretically, if temp doesn't change P1V1/T1=P2V2/T2 turns into P1V1=P2V2.
You could say as long as the tire deforms (and they all change shape), the overall volume doesn't change, and the pressure after load does not change.
However, by ideal gas laws, if you applied a load and it deformed the tire such that it didn't increasing the volume (read: flat spotted, but didn't expand in diameter or width any)- then the volume would have changed, and the internal pressure would have to change as well. That doesn't happen though. The tire changes shape for sure.
Reality is you'll find it's not a linear effect. At some point the tire resists the volume change and then the pressure changes. More importantly though, the tire deforms such that the shape induces more drag and scrubbing. More scrubbing (friction) leads to increase in internal temp. As the temp goes up, so does the pressure and/or the volume of the tire. This is what leads to a tires ultimate failure / seperation / blah blah.
Bottom line: tire manufactures recommend applying the load and then monitoring the pressure. It says so on the tire - "MAX PSI at load".

RE: Laredo 5th wheeler

We have the same setup you're thinking about along with a Laredo. You can't ask for a better hitch / truck combination. The only thing I'll add is that you'll want a hitch mirror. The rear seat is so far back that hitching up is tough. You can't see over the rear of the seat for alignment.

RE: Silverback GII

Like most things I'm sure it looks better in person. I just think its a little too different for me. As it turns out the floorplan we're looking at it's not part of those prototypes. So I don't have to worry.

RE: Silverback GII

I did some asking aroun.
All of the regular Silverbacks are still available. The G2 is just a new
proto, of 2 different floorplans. All of the other floorplans are still
there with the old cap, old cabinets, and original features.
The G2 is not available with the round cap, only the new cap.

RE: Bunk House....kids really use it?

I guess we're supposed to do that stuff outside. There are floorplans that have a full LR (sofa plus recliners) plus a bunkroom, but they are 40 feet long and heavy.
Ken
True, but if it's raining, too hot, or too cold (Michigan remember), then you pretty much want inside. Otherwise I'd just get a big ol honkin' tent.
As for 40'ers...that's what we've been looking at. The Silverback with opposing slides is not far from that. If there's a unit with a "full LR", I'd like to see it. I haven't found one really.

Bunk House....kids really use it?

I've often heard that once they get a little older they either want to sleep in a tent, or they just crash where they are - ie in front of the living room tv. Ours 3 kids are little still, but I could see it being true in a few years. The center section doesn't really have any room to "entertain" or for mixing. I see us at one end, and them at the other. We've been thinking about bunk houses, but I'm afraid I'm going to miss my rear living floorplan too much.
For those of you who have them, do you still use them?

RE: Silverback GII

Wow...thats not good at all. Not what I'd expect from Cedar Creek for sure.
The comment about the slider was just that. If you already have a slider for your shortbed, then the front cap is just an angluar eyesore.
Good luck with your repairs. I understand CC is great to work with. Hope you have the same experience and have a bunch of happy trails with your new rig.

My jacks are welded to the frame. How are you to swap something like that out yourself without a welder?
